The political-public movement of Abkhazia The Forum of National Unity called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to take relevant measures to ensure that Russia and the international community recognize Abkhazia´s independence, news agency Apsnypress reported on October 8, 2005.
In a statement issued on October 7, 2005 The Forum of National Unity, which unites several political parties
and public movements, supports Abkhazia´s associated membership in the Russian Federation.
The Forum of National Unity, which describes Russia as ´´a guarantor of peace and stability,´´ stated
that ´´Abkhazia is not a part of Georgia´´ and will never allow ´´annexation of Abkhazia´´ by Georgia.

Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Giorgi Khaindrava said on September 6 that the Abkhaz authorities should give a consent on the return of Georgian refugees to the Gali district of the breakaway region.
“We should be convinced that the Abkhaz side is ready to recognize refugees’ rights to return. However, we have not noticed any understanding of this kind from the Abkhaz side so far,” news agency RIA Novosti quotes Khaindrava as saying after the first round of Georgian-Abkhazian talks in Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi.

On September 27, 1993 the Georgian troops were forced out of the Abkhaz capital Sokhum.
In Sokhum, the anniversary is observed without a military parade as in previous years.
Three days later, on September 30, 1993 Georgian forces left the territory of Abkhazia entirely.
In Abkhazia this day is celebrated as the Liberation of Sokhum.
Abkhaz officials will also lay a wreath in the Park of Honor to commemorate Abkhaz soldiers who died in the conflict.

Abkhazia does not want to change the participants in the Abkhaz-Georgian conflict settlement process, President of the Republic Sergei Bagapsh said.
´´The peacekeeping forces were deployed in the Abkhaz-Georgian conflict zone in accordance with a ceasefire and a separation agreement signed by Georgia and Abkhazia on May 14, 1994,´´ Bagapsh said.
´´Abkhazia does not want to introduce any changes to the document and without our consent it is impossible to introduce any new states to the peacekeeping process,´´ the Abkhaz President´s press service cites Bagapsh as saying.
