A group of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) arrived in Abkhazia on September 7 to inspect the safety and conditions of the facilities in which radioactive substances are stored...
Deputy Prime Minister of Abkhazia Leonid Lakerbaya hosted IAEA delegation headed by Director in the IAEA Department of Safeguards Kenji Murakami (Japan).
The delegation came to Abkhazia to familiarize themselves with the conditions of nuclear substances.
At the meeting with Lakerbaya Kenji Murakami said the experts are well prepared for a check-up of radioactivity background.
They also plan to examine conditions of nuclear storage in Sukhum Physics and Technology Institute and Experimental Pathology and Therapy Research Institute.
IAEA representatives asked the authorities to render assistance in fulfilling their task in the republic.

Speaking at the rally in Abkhaz capital Sokhum on September 30, 2005 Deputy Chairman of the Russian Duma Sergey Baburin called on the Georgian and Russian authorities to recognize Abkhazia´s independence, Apsnypress news agency reported.
Baburin was speaking at the rally marking 12th anniversary of Abkhazia´s independence.
Georgian troops were forced to leave Abkhazia after a year of fighting on September 30, 1993.

Sergey Bagapsh said that ethnic Georgians, mainly internally displaced persons, are entering and residing in Abkhazia with falsified entry permits issued by the Abkhaz security service.
