As IА REGNUM correspondent in Sukhumi reported, the congress will be held in the capital of Abkhazia since December 14 till December 17th this year. According to the secretary general of the International Abkhazian-Abazin People’s Association (IAAPA) Gennady Alamia, "the independent and the recognized state is the guarantor of the Abkhazian ethnos’s preservation" became the basic slogan of the Congress. Representatives of the Abkhazian Diasporas living in Turkey, Syria, Holland, Canada, Germany, the USA, Bulgaria, Egypt, Morocco, France and other countries will take part in the congress. Abkhazia Asks Russia To Recognize Its Independence

(Size: 220x155) Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia (file photo) (TASS) October 18, 2006 -- Abkhazia's parliament today sent an official appeal to the Russian president and Russian parliament asking for recognition as an independent state.
The Abkhaz parliament's document said Abkhazia has all the necessary attributes for sovereignty.
Abkhazia is officially part of Georgia and the Georgian government has repeatedly stated it will not allow any parts of the country to secede.
