Formerly a sub division of Georgia, Abkhazia declared itself independent on July 23, 1982. Since then it has been at war with, and partially occupied by Gerogia. In interview, President Sergei Bagapsh speaks about his nation's plans, friends and foes -- and prime real estate.
Other than Russia, your neighboring Black Sea states do not recognize Abkhazia as a nation. Are you isolated?

Russia hopes Turkey will be the first pro-western state to recognize
Abkhazia, and serious relevant work is under way, Alexander Rar,
European expert for energy and CIS, stated in his interview with
1news.az, speaking of Turkish Premier Recep Erdogan’s visit to Moscow.
According to him, “a most serious dynamic policy is being
implemented in the South Caucasus and Black Sea region, but it is not
only Nagorno-Karabakh that is in question.” The expert believes the
Nagorno-Karabakh problem to be “of secondary importance” in this
context.
“The foremost topic is a fierce struggle for control over energy
resources – which side will be the first to lay lines for oil and gas

ABKHAZIA IS READY TO DISCUSS THE ISSUES OF DEVELOPMENT OF ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL COOPERATION WITH JORDAN - PRESIDENT

The President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh met in SuKhum with a group of businessmen from Jordan.
Welcoming
the guests, Sergey Bagapsh said that Abkhazia was ready to discuss the
issues of development of economic and cultural cooperation with
Jordan. "We are ready to discuss your proposals and to share the views
regarding mutually benificial cooperation", the President said.
The
members of the Jordanian delegation congratulated the President on the
recognition of independence of Abkhazia already by four countries. The
Jordanian businessmen were interested in the possibilities of opening
air communication, a pharmaceutical company, and a broadcasting
company.

Bagapsh won again in the Dec. 12 presidential elections held in
Abkhazia, which has declared a one-sided (de facto) independence from
Georgia. These elections were his second victory; he had won against
Raul Hadjimba in presidential elections held on Oct. 3, 2004.
During
his election campaign Bagapsh had vowed to develop the country’s
economy, raise living standards and increase wages. He also said that
in terms of foreign policy, economic and political ties would be
strengthened with the Russian Federation, which recognizes Abkhazia’s

Bagapsh won again in the Dec. 12 presidential elections held in
Abkhazia, which has declared a one-sided (de facto) independence from
Georgia. While Bagapsh was the president of a state considered “de
facto” independent, he is now the president of a state considered “de
jure” since the August 2008 war.
In this respect, the Bagapsh administration will want to improve
relations with Abkhazians living outside Abkhazia and especially with
Turkey, which has an Abkhaz population five times as big as the
