Turkey should open up to Abkhazia, report unveils

A report launched late Wednesday by an Ankara-based think tank highlighted the need for engagement policies toward Abkhazia. “The
aim of this report is to question isolation policy and promote
engagement by looking to the region as an economic entity,” said Burcu
Gültekin Punsmann, the lead author of the report “Abkhazia for the
Integration of the Black Sea,” which was drafted by the Economic Policy
Research Foundation of Turkey, or TEPAV.
Economic sanctions
are policy tools used by governments to constrain business activity
across borders with intended policy outcomes, according to the report,
which underlined that cooperation was the key factor in ensuring
success.

Pacific island recognizes Abkhazia's independence
Ria Novosti - Nauru, the world's smallest country, has recognized
the independence of the former Georgian republic of Abkhazia, with both
countries signing an agreement on Tuesday on establishing diplomatic
relations.
Nauru is the fourth country to recognize Abkhazia's independence, joining Russia, Nicaragua and Venezuela.
The signing ceremony was held in the building of the Abkhaz
presidential administration. The document was signed by Abkhazian
Foreign Minister Sergei Shamba and his Nauru counterpart Kieren Keke.
"We hope that the establishment of diplomatic relations between our
countries will help establish stability and peace. I hope that other
countries will follow our example and will also recognize the
independence of Abkhazia," Keke told reporters after the signing
ceremony.

The Republic of Nauru recognized independency of Abkhazia.
News.Az - Today the Foreign Ministers of both signed the agreement
on establishment of diplomatic relations. The ceremony was held in the
administration of the President of separatist Abkhazia.
The Foreign Minister of Nauru Kirene Keke
expressed hope that decision will favor establishment of peace and
stability in the world. He also hopes that other countries will follow
the example and also recognize Abkhazia.
Sergey Shamba, the Foreign Minister of Abkhazia,
in his turn explained that establishment of diplomatic relations means
recognition of the state's independency.
"There are different
forms of recognition; the most widespread is establishment of
diplomatic relations. Sometimes it's done in a different way, when a
statement on mutual recognition is made. That is why today's act means
bilateral recognition of our states," Shamba said.

Abkhaz Diaspora of Jordan met with Sergey Bagapsh 15.12.2009 Yesterday a group of the Abkhaz Diaspora of Jordan representatives met with the elected President Sergey Bagapsh.They congratulated Bagapsha on re-election as Head of the Abkhaz state, and expressed satisfaction by the fact that the elections were of a democratic character and that their ethnic Motherland makes confident steps in its development.Sergey Bagapsh and Jordan’s Diaspora representatives discussed questions of interaction, repatriation and provision of necessary facilities for Muhajirs’ descendants who have come back to the historical Motherland.At the same time Bagapsh expressed hope that the Abkhaz Diaspora would be rendering a more confident assistance to the recognition of Abkhazia by other states.
