Abkhazia doesn’t agree with return of Georgian refugees – Bagapsh

MOSCOW, February 16 (Itar-Tass) -- Abkhazia will not agree with the return of
Georgian refugees because that will lead to a war, Abkhaz President Sergei
Bagapsh told MGIMO university professors and students in Moscow on Tuesday.
"A total of 72 nationalities – Abkhazians, Armenians, Georgians, Russians,
Estonians and others – live in Abkhazia now. We received about 55,000 refugees
after the war with Georgia, while Georgia received only 5,000. These people are
our citizens of full value. They take part in the republic’s life, including
elections. The return of other refugees is problematic, and we cannot do it
right now for fear of a possible war,” he said.

Ex-Prime Minister Alexander Ankvab expressed gratitude to the government, the Cabinet's office for honest work.
"Everything
we did was aimed at being of benefit for the republic, our people. We
managed to do much, but a lot of work is yet to be done. I think the
next five years of a new government's work will be effective, fruitful
and rich", Ankvab said today, at the last session of the government he
has headed for the previous five years.

Abkhazia's State Philarmonic Hall will host President Sergey Bagapsh's
second inauguration. Representatives of the Russian president's
administration and Russian Central Election Commission as well as
guests from republics of North Caucasus, Transdniestria, South Ossetia
and members of Abkhaz diaspora in Turkey, ambassadors of Nicaragua,
Venezuela and Russia are expected to come to the Abkhaz capital.
GeorgiaTimes correspondent talked to Russian politologists about
Bagapsh's role in the life of Abkhazia, his political activities and
prospects of Sukhum-Moscow and Sukhum-Tbilisi relations. As
we know December 12 2009 was the day of presidential election in
Abkhazia taking Sergey Bagapsh who outdistanced his rivals by a wide

On February 1 in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs the Foreign Minister
of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba had a meeting with the "Norwegian Refugees
Council” (NRC) international humanitarian organization representatives
Mr. Peter Kostogryz who was appointed as new organization’s regional
director for the Caucasus, as well as the regional NRC manager madam
Ana Povrjenic. The meeting was held within the framework of Peter
Kostogryz’s familiarization visit to Abkhazia.
During
the meeting madam Povrjenic told the Minister about the organization’s
projects planned for 2010. So, with financial assistance from the UNHCR
