Stoletie, March 4 - This morning it was announced that VG Ardzinba
died in Moscow on 65 th year of life in the Central Clinical Hospital
in Moscow.
V. Ardzinba worked at the Institute of Oriental Studies,USSR Academy
of Sciences, for many years. He was an excellent scholar, a specialist
in the Hatti (the oldest population in Minor Asia), whose language he
argued to be common with the Abkhaz-Adyghe language-family. He wrote an
excellent monograph, "The rituals and myths of ancient Anatolia”, which
later was defended as his doctoral dissertation.

NATIONAL CARD PAYMENT SYSTEM TO BE CREATED IN ABKHAZIA

According to a decree issued by the President Sergey Bagapsh, the
National card payment system will be created in Abkhazia.
"In
an effort to coordinate and regulate settlement relations with the use
of cards, and to meet the requirements of the population of the
Republic of Abkhazia in modern bank products and services, to increase
inclusion of physical persons in non-cash payments and to create the
payment infrastructure in the territory of the Republic of Abkhazia”,
the National bank of the Republic of Abkhazia is charged to:
1)create the National card payment system (including cards of international payment systems) till December, 2010;
2)give
basic provisions of functioning of the National card payment system,

News.am: Yanukovych not to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Ukraine may not recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South
Ossetia, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych stated in the interview
with BBC.
According to him, Ukraine is against a politics of double standards.
He referred to Kosovo, which unilaterally declared independence from
Serbia in February 2008, emphasizing that frozen conflicts would only
get worse and pointing the examples of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"The recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia is not currently on
the agenda. We had a precedent that could not have, nevertheless, we
admitted,” Yanukovych said.
According to him, it would be useful to give all-out consideration
to the issue at the level of international relations or under the
auspices of UN.

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan sent a condolence
letter to his Abkhazian counterpart Sergei Bagapsh for death of
country’s first president Vladislav Ardzinba.
"Abkhazia and its people suffered a great loss with the death of the first Abkhazian President Vladislav Ardzinba.
Ardzinba was one of the originators of the national-liberation
movement of Abkhazia and headed the republic at a most crucial period
of its history. Under his governance, Abkhazia overcame all the
hardships with dignity, embarked firmly on the path of further
strengthening of its statehood.
Ardzinba is widely known far beyond Abkhazia. He enjoyed deep respect and warm feeling in Artsakh.

Former Abkhaz President Dies After Protracted Illness

The death was announced today
of Vladislav Ardzinba, who spearheaded Abkhazia's campaign in the 1990s
for independence from Georgia. He was 64, and had been suffering for
over a decade from a progressive degenerative disease that left him
confined to a wheelchair. Ardzinba was born in the village of
Eshera in May 1945 and graduated in 1966 from the historical faculty of
Sukhumi Pedagogical Institute. He studied in Moscow as a graduate
student at the Oriental Institute under Yevgeny Primakov, who later
served as Russian foreign minister. Ardzinba's political
engagement began in 1989, when he was elected to the USSR Congress of
