Georgia hopes to see Abkhazia at negotiation table
03/08/2005 15:08 TBILISI, August 3 (RIA Novosti) - Georgia is hoping that Abkhaz representatives will not cancel a meeting here Thursday on conflict resolution, Georgian State Minister for Separatist Conflicts Georgy Khaindrava said.
He said Foreign Minister of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia Sergei Shamba, Deputy Defense Minister Garri Kupalba and others officials were to attend the meeting, held under the auspices of the UN.
"Media expectations of such negotiations are often exaggerated," the official said.
The Georgian-Abkhaz meeting in Tbilisi under the UN aegis was postponed twice following Abkhaz officials' refusal to come to the Georgian capital.
Abkhazia refused to join the talks following Georgia's detention of a Turkish vessel carrying foodstuffs and building materials to Abkhazia. The cargo was released to Abkhazia on August 1 with UN assistance.
