27.1.2006 11:33 MSK Russian-Chechen Information Agency receives "Free Press of Russia 2006" Award RUSSIA, Nizhny Novgorod. On January 25th, the Russian-Chechen Information Agency, founded by the Society of Russian-Chechen Friendship, received the "Free Press of Russia 2006" Award. The award amount is 20 thousand Euros. According to the conditions of the competition, the award must be used for further professional development of the Information Agency.
The competition was run by the "Freedom Word" fund in Oslo, Norway and ZEIT-Stiftung Ebelin und Gerd Bucerius in Hamburg, Germany within the framework of a joint project on strengthening professional journalism in East Europe. The awards ceremony will take place on May 19th, 2006, in the Hamburg Town Hall. Editor-in-Chief Stanislav Dmitriyevsky has been invited to participate in the ceremony.
Meanwhile, in Nizhniy Novgorod, Stanislav Dmitriyevsky’s trial continues. He is charged with publishing an open statement from Ahmed Zakaev and Aslan Masxadov. On January 18th, the state prosecutor asked the court to sentence Dmitriyevsky to four years imprisonment. Other recipients of the "Free Press of Russia 2006" awards were "Solidarity", Minsk; "Ukrainian Truth", Kiev; "Soviet Kalmykiya Today", Volgograd; "Lists", Vyborg; and Veronica Shakhova from Blagoveshensk and Fatima Tlisova of from Nalchik.
