From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 9/28/2007 5:45 PM September 27th, 2007 Chechen Parliament Threatens Kasparov Dukvakh Abdurakhmanov, the head of the People’s Assembly of the Chechen parliament, put his true colors and those of his government on display yesterday. He was reacting to an speech in which Other Russia leader Garry Kasparov referred to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov as a bandit. Abdurakhmanov first talked of a libel suit against Kasparov, but then continued, “Kasparov must be in jail. If we are not satisfied by the punishment of federal law we will take other measures. In the Caucasus we have our own laws and Kasparov will be punished.” A remarkable statement from a lawmaker, that he will ignore federal law, but not all that remarkable in Putin’s Russia or Kadyrov’s Chechnya. Considering the fate many of Kadyrov’s critics have suffered, this cannot be considered an idle boast. Kasparov has written the Attorney General’s office to ... >> full...

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 9/28/2007 5:55 PM Monday, September 10th, 2007 Kremlin Increases Pressure The Russian government of Vladimir Putin has increased pressure against the activities of the Other Russia across the country, including in Moscow, during our primary election cycle. In recent days four delegate conferences have been blocked by the government. This is a significant escalation by the Kremlin because their actions come not against street protests or public demonstrations, but against formal meetings of people attempting to engage in the democratic process. Our conferences are open and transparent, but apparently even these democratic discussions have been forbidden by the Kremlin. This signifies a broad step onto totalitarian soil. Participants in Rostov and Smolensk were taken into custody and later released without charges — clearly the only intent was to disrupt the conferences. In Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow, the conferences were blocked by the sudden withdrawal of permission by the ... >> full...

September, 26, 2006 Foreign Ministry of Chechen Republic of Ichkeria Statement on the hunger strike of Said-Emin Ibragimov SIA CHECHENPRESS, 26 September 2007 It is three weeks now that Chechen human rights activist Said-Emin Ibragimov is on hunger strike outside the PACE building in Strasburg, demanding the international organisations to make a legal and political assessment of the human rights abuses in Chechnya. His demands are quite practicable, provided that the international organizations honestly observe the international law’s norms and principles. However, today’s world is dominated by the right of force and double standards on the human rights. This hampers the international human rights activists in their struggle against violations of rights and liberties in various countries of the world. Nevertheless, on 1 September Chechen human rights activist Said-Emin Ibragimov started his protest hunger strike, hoping to be heard by the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. This hunger strike, which is going on for 22 days ... >> full...

Appeal to Said-Emin Ibragimov SIA CHECHENPRESS, 26 September 2007 Dear Said-Emin, It is with unceasing attention and fear for your life that we observe the many-days-long hunger strike which you have declared before the PACE Headquarters in Strasbourg. For all these days, we have seen the opposition between courage and indifference, between firm civic stance and unprincipled duplicity of the faceless and soulless bureaucracy. Nobody has any doubts now that you have achieved an overwhelming moral victory against those who cynically neglect all the moral values of this world and the high ideals of humanism and natural human rights. The Chechen nation, excluded by the Establishment from the rules of civilized relations, has suffered all thinkable forms of genocide and national humiliation for many years. We fully support your rightful demands regarding the Chechen question. We have no doubts left now that the ... >> full...
