European Court condemns Russian authorities on three complaints from Chechnya

On November 15, the European Court for Human Rights (ECfHR) satisfied three complaints lodged by Chechen residents and found Russia guilty of violent disappearances, extrajudicial executions and illegal capture and destruction of private property in Chechnya.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Rumair Lemaitre, director for legal activities of the Moscow's representative office of the Dutch NGO "Legal Initiative for Russia", which had rendered assistance to the applicant to the European Court in the case "Khamila Isaeva versus Russia".

According to witnesses' evidences, Sultan Isaev, the applicant's husband, was detained on April 29, 2001, by federal militaries during a special operation in the Chechen village of Alkhan-Kala. Since then, Ms Isaeva has known nothing about him.

Pressure put on organizer of "Dissenter’s Meeting" in Ryazan
RUSSIA, Ryazan. On November 12, one of the organizers of the "Dissenter’s Meeting" in Ryazan, Sergey Agadzhanyan, was taken to the Ryazan UBOP. In a conversation with UBOP Chief Vadim Kozhevnikov, Agadzhanyan was advised to forego the planned action, reported the press-service of the opposition coalition "The Other Russia".

The regional organizing committee of "The Other Russia" declared that these kinds of attempts at pressuring organizers of public demonstrations were a violation of Russian legislation.

On November 9, members of the Ryazan organizing committee of "The Other Russia" informed the municipal administration about their intent to hold a Dissenter’s Meeting. RUSSIA, Orel. Candidate for State Duma Deputy from the coalition "The Other Russia" Mikhail Deyev was discharged from work after a call from the FSB. Deyev, who worked as a guard in an Orel business, reported that the director of the firm told him he was being discharged, after stating: "The FSB called me and told me to discharge you".

The director also added that the dismissal was directly connected to the increased activities of "The Other Russia" in Orel. "You will not find work as a guard at any firm", added the director.

In Kabardino-Balkaria, the Nalchik City Court has ruled that the statement of Yu. A. Savrulin, inspector for especially important cases of the Central Department of the State Office of Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation for the South Federal District (SFD), instructing to bury the persons killed in the process of suppressing an act of terror, to be illegal and unjustified.

The inhabitants of Shhafit settlement, located in Lazarevsky area of Sochi, are afraid of adoption of the "Olympic law" not less, than Sochi citizens, appeared in the centre of the events. As confirmation of it they handed “Caucasian unit" correspondent an official reply to their letter to the Interregional inspection of the Federal tax service #7 across Krasnodar Region.

The reply was dated 13.10.2006 and signed by the assistant of the chief, reviewer of the state civil service of Russian Federation of the 1st class A.N. Kopylov. The inquiry was sent by Madin Shhalahov, Shhafit inhabitant.
