The Nizhnii Novgorod Regional Court at 10 a.m. on November 16 began the review of the criminal case against Stanislav Dmitrievki, editor of “Legal-defense”, and the executive director of the Society on Russian-Chechen Friendship, based on accusations of inciting racial, national and social hostility. The court subpoenaed members and associates of the Society on Russian-Chechen Friendship and the Nizhnii Novgorod Society of Human Rights, as witnesses in the case. At 12 p.m., due to the absence of some of the witnesses, the court postponed the hearings until November 25. (Russian-Chechen Friendship Society Information Centre). On 15 November, barrister Bill Bowring was refused entry into Russia after he had landed in Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow. Professor Bowring was travelling to Nizhniy Novgorod to attend a court hearing on 16 November as an observer in connection with the case of Stanislav Dmitrievskiy, editor-in-chief of Pravo-Zashchita newspaper, who is accused of inciting racial, ethnic and social hostility. Barrister Bill Bowring, who flew in to Sheremetievo-2 from London, had been held at the airport for more than four hours by a member of Federal Security Service (FSB), after which he was refused entry into the country without any further explanations. On November 9th, the Almetevsky City Court awarded Yevgeny Vedenin three million rubles as moral compensation for illegal imprisonment. Vedenin was accused of murder and spent almost four years in a penal colony. The Board of the Exchequer of Russia is paying the unprecedented sum, reported the Human Rights Center of Kazan. On May 20th, 2001, the police detained Vedenin in his apartment. “With no explanation, they pointed at guns at me, placed me on the floor, put handcuffs on me and drove me to the UVD,” described Vedenin. MOSCOW. NOV 18 (Interfax) - Human Rights Watch has called on Russian law enforcement agencies to observe human rights while investigating the attack on Nalchik, the capital city of the Russian North Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Barlkaria, in October this year.
"Russian law enforcement officials have used ill-treatment to coerce confessions from suspects in the October 13 armed attacks in the Northern Caucasus city of Nalchik," Human Rights Watch said in a statement on November 18.

The decision may be appealed within ten days. The Main Department of the Federal Registration Service of the Justice Ministry for the Nizhny Novgorod region (MD FRS) brought the claim for liquidation of the RCFS in April. The MD FRS was proceeding with an extraordinary examination of the RCFS when it requested documents concerning the organisation's financial operations.
