Authorities of Ingushetia try to close NGO "Mashr"

A notification on holding on October 16 a picket in memory of Anna Politkovskaya in Nazran (Ingushetia), which was violently dispersed by militia, was submitted to the city's administration by the "Mashr" Republic's Association of Relatives of Missing Persons on October 12. In his interview to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot," Magomed Mutsolgov, head of the "Mashr," told about the pressure that is being exerted on the organization.

"After submitting the notification about the picket, instead of giving an answer, two days before the action, I was besieged from all directions," Mutsolgov explains. "They came to my home, to my parents and into our office. They even offered me money for my giving up the idea to hold an action in memory of Anna Politkovskaya," the Ingush human rights activist added.

Anna Politkovskaya's daughter is under constant guard

The daughter of Anna Politkovskaya, the murdered "Novaya Cazeta's"
journalist, is under constant guard. On the day when her mother was shot
dead, Vera was sitting in a car parked near the house and could probably
see the killer. The available videos have his unclear images, therefore,
the only investigation's hope is on Vera, the "Komsomolskaya Pravda"
asserts.

Anna Politkovskaya's murder investigation is considering three main
versions: a vengeance of the militiamen who found themselves, after her
publications, in prison or search; a conspiracy of the opponents of
Vladimir Putin and Chechen Premier Kadyrov; and also a vengeance of
former militants who have went over to the federal side. Besides,
Politkovskaya could be killed by Russian nationalists, since her name
was on the "execution list" compiled by the leaders of fascist-like
movements, the NEWSru.com informs.(*)

We remind you that Anna Politkovskaya, "Novaya Gazeta's" journalist,
murdered on Saturday October 7, a ...

Czech journalists response to Politkovskaya murder

Czech journalists response to Politkovskaya murder

PRAGUE - On October 9 the Czech Union of Journalists sent the following letter to the Russian ambassador to the Czech Republic in answer to Anna Politkovskaya’s assassination:

Your Excellency,

It was with great sadness that we heard about the assassination of our colleague Anna Politkovskaya whose death was undoubtedly linked to her work. Turning to the use of guns is the worst possible means of resolving disputes and is often used by those unable to verbally explain their actions. And the outcome is always repugnant.

We therefore appeal to you, as an official representative of Russia, to thoroughly investigate this contemptible crime, severely punish the guilty and make public the reason for Anna’s assassination.

Sincerely,

Miroslav Jelínek
Chairman of the Czech Union of Journalists
