Ibragimov is Invited to Speak to PACE

Mr. Gunter Schirmer, on behalf of the PACE, has officially invited Said-Emin Ibragimov to make a speech at the Assembly session this week, where the problem of Chechnya will be discussed. However, Mr. Ibragimov said he would not stop his hunger strike until his demand ‘to consider the issue of Chechnya from legal viewpoint’ is fully met.

Mr. Ibragimov, a human rights activist, is on hunger strike for the 30th day now, which he keeps with remarkable courage and determination. The Council of Europe, PACE and government of France are all made aware of his protest and the contents of his demands.

Last Monday Larisa Volodimerova has also arrived to Strasbourg and began her own hunger strike in support of Mr. Ibragimov. She negotiated with Mr. Schirmer regarding the arrangements for Mr. ...

"The Other Russia" holds preliminary elections
RUSSIA, Moscow. On September 26, the Federal Organizing Committee of the oppositional coalition "The Other Russia" held regional conferences for the election of delegates to their Federal Congress, and for the advancement of a list of candidates for State Duma from "The Other Russia", as well as for voting on a list of possible presidential candidates. The conferences took place in 57 regions of the Russian Federation.

As reported on September 27 by the press-service of "The Other Russia", the results of two conferences were not recognized by the Federal Organizing Committee: in Novosibirsk and in Yoshkar-Ola where there were gross violations of regulations. The Federal Organizing Committee recognized the results of a second conference in Samara.
