Russians Humiliate Chechens in Moscow
Publication time: 1 January 2007, 10:19
On a recent Sunday morning, three busloads of Russian teenagers wearing green armbands emblazoned with the word "Locals" stormed into a bustling produce market in this Moscow suburb, screaming "Down with migrants!"

They stalked past aisles of dried fruit and pickled garlic, singling out traders with non-Slavic faces and demanding to see passports and proof that their produce was safe. Some of the teens looked to be as young as 14. Though they had no authority, they carried on like immigration agents, barking out demands and commandeering the market for nearly two hours.

Publication time: 2 January 2007, 11:15
The vast majority of the patients attending the Rostovsk cancer centre are residents of the Chechen Republic. According to a worker from the Republic's Ministry of Health today practically every third patient undergoing treatment in this centre is an inhabitant of Chechnya.

Chechen doctors have noted, that the number of cancer sufferers in the Republic is rising at a catastrophic rate. Furthermore conditions in Chechnya do not allow for the early detection and subsequent treatment of the disease. Therefore, people who doctors have diagnosed with signs of cancer are usually sent to the Rostov Cancer Centre. A proportion of the patients ...

Spontaneous meeting against kidnapping broken up in Dagestan

According to the United Civil Front a spontaneous meeting took place on 27 December in the central square of Shamilkala (former Makhachkala) the capital of Dagestan. The meeting ended with those who had gathered being beaten, mainly women, and the expulsion of a mass of people from the square by members of the police.

The reason why a group of determined people had gathered in the cold was the kidnap of a young man, Umar Ibnykhadzhirov, a resident of the village of Talga on 20 December by unknown armed people wearing masks. Umar's relatives presumed that the local police were involved in the kidnapping.

There is no information about the kidnapping. People are demanding the involvement of the government in resolving the problem. No one within ...
