The action "Return of the Names" in memory of the victims of political repressions has started in the Lubyanka Square of Moscow.
The action was opened at 10 a.m. with an introductory word of the representative of the International Historical-Enlightenment and Human Rights Society "Memorial", which was the organizer, as Elena Zhemkova, Director of the Society, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
"From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., replacing each other, we shall read the names of the executed victims. Only the name and surname, age, profession and the date of execution," the "Memorial" informs.
"On October 29, in the days of the 70th anniversary of the Great Terror, on the eve of October 30 - the State Memory Day of Victims of Political Repressions, we wish to recollect the names of the people shot dead in Moscow during Stalin's terror. In 1937-1938, only in Moscow, over 40,000 persons were executed," runs the statement of the Society "Memorial".
Now, in the mini-park at the Solovki Boulder a photo exhibition is deployed, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Terror of 1937-1938. Also, during the action activists of the "Memorial" will disseminate their monthly newspaper "October 30", the recently issued CD-album "Victims of Political Terror in the USSR" and other materials.
