29/10/2007 Committee in Trepashkin's defence: deprivation of the patient of vitally required medicines is inhuman
The public committee in defence of political prisoner advocate Mikhail Trepashkin has called inhuman the numerous refusals of the administration of SIZO (pre-trial detention facility) No. 1 of Ekaterinburg to hand over to the convicted ex-FSB officer Trepashkin the asthma medicines vitally wanted by him. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Mikhail Kriger, the chairman of the committee.
The human rights activists have also addressed "the non-indifferent citizens" with a request "to call up and send faxes and telegrams to the bodies of the Federal service of Enforcement of Punishments with a demand to stop violations of Mikhail Trepashkin's rights." The necessary telephone numbers and addresses can be found in the website Trepashkin.info.
The public defender Shaklein has explained that the employees of the SIZO motivated their refusal to accept the medicines by the internal regulations enacted in the facility since August this year, according to which reception of medicinal parcels is made only from 10 to 12 a.m. on Wednesdays.
Mr. Trepashkin, who is suffering from a grave form of bronchial asthma, needs the medical preparation Salbutamol, which is required on a regular basis to remove the death-threatening asthma attacks.
The human rights activists note that during his stay at the SIZO, Trepashkin's state of health has worsened strongly. His custody term will be over on November 30. "Trepashkin's defenders are afraid that, having failed to fabricate a new criminal case against the unwanted prisoner, they will try either to kill him in prison or to undermine his health to such extent, that upon release he will have to get cured for a long time and will not be able to take part in public activities," the participants of the "Movement against Violence" write.
