Some Russian officials should be forbidden entrance into the EU and the USA
RUSSIA, Moscow. Russian human rights activists proposed that Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, Army General Rashid Nurgaliyev, Commander of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Army General Nikolai Rogozhkin, Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, Governor of Saint Petersburg, Valentin Matviyenko, and Mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Vadim Bulavinov, be forbidden entry into the EU and the US.
Their initiative is based on limitations to the fundamental rights of citizens to conduct processions and meetings and violence against participants in protest actions. These officials bear responsibility for attacks on participants in the "Marches of Dissenters", according to human rights activists.
A statement, published on April 19 by the movement " For Human Rights", said specifically: "Your countries made a decision to prohibit entrance to representatives of the regime ruling Belarus, whom you hold responsible for gross violations of human rights. Today the situation concerning guarantees of civil liberties and freedoms for the democratic opposition in the Russian Federation in many respects resembles the situation in Belarus.
The extraordinary cruelty of crackdowns on the " Dissenters' Marches" in Moscow on April 14 and in Saint Petersburg on April 15, and the prohibition and crackdown on demonstrations in Saint Petersburg on March 3 and in Nizhny Novgorod on March 24, show persuasively that high-ranking officials of the Russian system are consciously committing gross and massive violations of the human rights of its citizens, which are guaranteed by the Russian Constitution and fixed in Russia's international obligations... ".
The petition was signed by Boris Pustyntsev, Yuri Vdovin, Boris Viwnyovskiy, Yulia Rybakov, Ludmila Alekseyeva, Sergey Kovalev, Dmitriy Katayev, Yuri Samodurov, Lev Ponomarev, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Edvard Murzin and others.
