On February 22, the Press- Service of St. Petersburg "Yabloko” announced that the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation refused to examine the statements of the Yabloko Party and residents of Saint Petersburg appealing the resolution of the Central Election Commission, which refused to register "Yabloko" for elections to the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, ".
On February 9, the Central Election Commission of Russia (TSIK) affirmed the resolution of the election commission of Saint Petersburg refusing registration to the "Yabloko" Party. TSIK ruled that10.43 percent of the signatures were invalid. In real terms, Yabloko exceeded the number of invalid signatures by 35.
On February 15, the Supreme Court received An appeal from the St. Petersburg department of "Yabloko". On February 16, 7 signatures in support of the advancement of the party to elections were identified as invalid, on February 19, 71 signatures were identified as invalid. All statements from citizens were affirmed by notary. St. Petersburg residents whose signatures were acknowledged ineffective aren’t interested in listening to either the City or Central Election Commissions or Supreme Court, notes "Yabloko".
Representatives of Petersburg "Yabloko" intend to appeal the resolution of the Supreme Court concerning the refusal to examine the statements of the party and of citizens in the appeal. A parallel complaint against TSIK has been filed in lower court.
In addition, statements have been sent to the Central Election Commission concerning the registration of new participants in the elections, the Socialist Unity Party of Russia (SEPR). On February 20, the City Election Commission registered SEPR on the basis of a resolution by the City Court, although more than 30 percent of signatures assembled by this party were invalid.
"The absurdity of the situation leaves no doubt about the political motives of the elimination of Yabloko from elections in Saint Petersburg, stated St. Petersburg "Yabloko” Chairman, "Maxim Reznik. “This decision was made by Valentin Matviyenko, and I doubt that the President of the Russian Federation was not involved".
The all-democratic appeal of St. Petersburg "Yabloko" was signed by a number of leaders: human rights activist Julia Rybakov, Mikhail Tolstoy, Leonid Romankov, Aleksandr Maximov, Leader of the Social Democrats Vyacheslav Votyag, well-known ecologists Aleksandr Nikitin and Olga Tsepilova, Independent Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St.Petersburg, Sergey Gulyayev, and others.
