On 12 December, on Russian Constitution Day in St Petersburg in Dvortsova Square the “Defence” political movement acquainted the people of St Petersburg with the Constitution as it has become during the period of rule of the current President. Activists of the movement handed out to passers-by a brochure entitled “Pu…-version of the Constitution” containing blank pages.
This demonstration symbolically demonstrates that today the contents of the fundamental document of the state do not carry any weight – the constitution has simply become a book cover, nobody is interested in the text within and nobody takes account of it, said “Defence”.
On 12 December the first action by the Kemerovsk branch of “Defence” took place. The demonstration in the centre of the city, near the post office, went ahead under the slogan “The Constitution defends your rights and needs to be protected”.
