RUSSIA, Lower Tagil. Sverdlovsk Region. On July 6th, attorney Mikhail Trepashkin was placed in penal isolation for 15 days. The occasion for this punishment was the fact that he transmitted a rough copy of a complaint to the Superior Court of the Russian Federation via defense attorney, Lyubov Kosik, and not through the administration of the IR -13 penal colony, Kosik reported on July 8.
Another of Trepashkin’s attorneys, Elena Liptser, in conversation with a correspondent of PRIMA-News, emphasized that placing her client in isolation (SHIZO) is illegal. Trepashkin is held under supervision in a colony- settling. According to the Criminal-Executive Code, he has the right to send a complaint to the Supreme Court independently.
Lyubov Kosik reported that it is cold in SHIZO. On the second day Trepashkin was allowed a quilted jacket. Trepashkin’s asthma attacks have recurred due to the extreme cold. Treatment for his condition has ended. His dental treatment has ended. His dental prostheses, on temporary fastenings, have separated from his gums. The varicose veins in his feet have thus far not been treated, and Trepashkin now experiences pain in his feet, since he is forbidden from sitting on the bed, but there is nowhere else to sit. Sitting on the cement floor led to a cold and pains in the throat.
Medical Chief S. Tkachuk attempted to explain to Chief of IR 13, S. Zolotukhin that Trepashkin should not be placed in SHIZO, and there should be no interruption to the prosthetic work on his teeth. Since May 29th, Trepashkin has been receiving hormonal treatments for his bronchial asthma. The sudden curtailment of treatment can lead to complications. Even now, Trepashkin is experiencing joint pain.
Zolotukhin stated that he perceives Trepashkin’s actions to be a disciplinary offense, and this means that, no matter what, he is obligated to sit in SHIZO. The possibility of Trepashkin getting medical treatment soon is excluded, since Zolotukhin stated that now Trepashkin will be placed in SHIZO for a long time. As Kosik explained, apparently there will be a prolongation of Trepashkin’s period in SHIZO after 15 days have expired.
Kosik believes that in his present condition, after his punishment in SHIZO and the curtailment of medical treatment, Trepashkin’s participation in judicial proceedings will be impossible. Zolotukhin has completely created conditions of torture for Trepashkin, emphasized Kosik.
