Sverdlovsk Region. On June 7th, the IR-13 penal colony reported that Mikhail Trepashkin and prisoners Yevgeny Shatsky and Inshukov were joining the hunger strike declared on June 5th by Sergey Naugolnik. Both Naugolnik and Shatsky are in the isolation unit.
The demands of the hunger strikers are as follows: 1) that the prosecutor investigate and punish Internal Service Major Golovin, who, the strikers assert, arranges provocations of the prisoners, falsifies charges against prisoners in order to deprive them of conditional early release, and illegally prevents them from leaving the colony zone; 2) the dismissal from his post of Nizhny Tagil procuratorship attorney Klemevtev, who oversees legal affairs in the penitentiary, for idleness and planning to break the law.
To these requirements Mikhail Trepashkin has added two more: 1) the free admittance of defense attorneys; 2) and access to qualified medical help in the Lower Tagil City Hospital. This is Trepashkin’s second hunger strike in two months.
Mikhail Trepashkin is serving his sentence on the charge of divulging state secrets, a charge which Trepashkin’s attorneys and human rights activists consider fabricated.
