Svetlana Estemirova's cassation complaint rejected

At its session held on December 22, the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic upheld the ruling of the first instance court regarding the cassation appeal filed by Svetlana Estemirova, sister of the assassinated human rights activist Natalia Estemirova.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it at the press service of the Court.

The session was attended by the judicial collegium, a prosecutor and one of the defence advocates Zhabrail Abubakarov. "No media people were admitted, only other applicants were present," Mr Abubakarov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has also noted that in the course of the session the prosecution objected to satisfaction of the cassation complaint with reference to protection of third persons' interests.

The essence of the complaint, filed in August 2010 to the Leninskiy Court of Vladikavkaz, lies in the fact that the inquiry bodies refused to provide materials related to the check of the version of complicity of the persons involved in public execution of kidnapped Rizvan Albekov in the murder of Natalia Estemirova. Natalia had been dealing with this execution in her last days; she told about it in her last interview given to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
