Mr. Gunter Schirmer, on behalf of the PACE, has officially invited Said-Emin Ibragimov to make a speech at the Assembly session this week, where the problem of Chechnya will be discussed. However, Mr. Ibragimov said he would not stop his hunger strike until his demand ‘to consider the issue of Chechnya from legal viewpoint’ is fully met.
Mr. Ibragimov, a human rights activist, is on hunger strike for the 30th day now, which he keeps with remarkable courage and determination. The Council of Europe, PACE and government of France are all made aware of his protest and the contents of his demands.
Last Monday Larisa Volodimerova has also arrived to Strasbourg and began her own hunger strike in support of Mr. Ibragimov. She negotiated with Mr. Schirmer regarding the arrangements for Mr. Ibragimov’s address this week. If the PACE rejects his demands, she said on behalf of Mr. Ibragimov, the protestor expects their legal argument against them to be presented in written form, and specify which points of the documents he supplied do not correspond to legal standards and why the Council of Europe finds them unacceptable.
Mr. Ibragimov was present, though in a very hard physical condition, in front of the Council of Europe building this Tuesday.
On 25th of September, the international Committee for Salvation of Said-Emin Ibragimov again called President Sarkozi of France to respond to Mr. Ibragimov’s demands by starting ‘legal consideration of the issue involving the tragedy and genocide of Chechnya’s people’. The Committee stated the European politicians must realise that ‘the Russian fascism’s expansion is the threat to the whole world, and the “Chechen question” is historically determined to be resolved’.
