On September 26, the Federal Organizing Committee of the oppositional coalition "The Other Russia" held regional conferences for the election of delegates to their Federal Congress, and for the advancement of a list of candidates for State Duma from "The Other Russia", as well as for voting on a list of possible presidential candidates. The conferences took place in 57 regions of the Russian Federation.
As reported on September 27 by the press-service of "The Other Russia", the results of two conferences were not recognized by the Federal Organizing Committee: in Novosibirsk and in Yoshkar-Ola where there were gross violations of regulations. The Federal Organizing Committee recognized the results of a second conference in Samara.
22 regional conferences advanced Gary Kasparov, Chairman of the United Civil Front, as their choice for president. RNDS leader Mikhail Cassian won in 21 regions. Six conferences named former Tsentrobank Chairman Victor Gerashchenko as their candidate. Leader of the "People" movement, Sergey Gulyayev, and Deputies of the State Duma, Vladimir Ryzhkov and Boris Vinogradov, each won a conference. Three conferences were unable to decide on a winner. In the Kaliningrad and Rostovskaya provinces, the authorities prevented organizers from conducting a second round of elections, while in the Tver region Mikhail Cassian and Victor Gerashchenko were tied in the second round.
On September 30, in Moscow, the Federal Congress will take place to conduct final voting for a united candidate for presidential elections and to determine the tactical plans of the opposition. 374 delegates were selected by regional conferences. Approximately the same number of delegates will arrive in Moscow from organizations in the coalition "The Other Russia". Including invited guests, 800 people will participate in the work of the congress.
