(Russian-Chechen Friendship Society Information Centre). On 15 November, barrister Bill Bowring was refused entry into Russia after he had landed in Sheremetyevo airport in Moscow. Professor Bowring was travelling to Nizhniy Novgorod to attend a court hearing on 16 November as an observer in connection with the case of Stanislav Dmitrievskiy, editor-in-chief of Pravo-Zashchita newspaper, who is accused of inciting racial, ethnic and social hostility.
Barrister Bill Bowring, who flew in to Sheremetievo-2 from London, had been held at the airport for more than four hours by a member of Federal Security Service (FSB), after which he was refused entry into the country without any further explanations. Professor Bowring had a valid Russian visa that allowed him a free entry into Russia.
Bill Bowring, Professor of Human Rights and International Law from London Metropolitan University and Executive Committee member of the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales, was appointed to travel to Nizhniy Novgorod by the Bar Human Rights Committee of England and Wales to participate as an observer in a court hearing scheduled for 16 November in connection with the case against Stanislav Dmitrievsky, editor-in-chief of Pravo-Zashchita newspaper and executive director of Russian-Chechen Friendship Society, accused of inciting racial, ethnic and social hostility.
Between 16 and 18 June 2005 professor Bill Bowring visited Nizhniy Novgorod where he examined the situation with the pressure imposed on Russian-Chechen Friendship Society by various state bodies of the Russian Federation. A special report was prepared on the findings of his mission.
