On September 19th, the Moscow City Court denied the writ of appeal filed by journalist Pavel Lyuzakov's defense team, reported Lyuzakov's attorney Cyril Podrabinek. On August 16th, the Ostankino court in Moscow sentenced Lyuzakov to two years in a prison colony on the charge of the illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms.
The journalist was arrested in Moscow on January 20th, immediately after an acqauintance handed him a combat weapon in place of an ordinary gas pistol.
On September 19th, near the Moscow Court building, the journalist's supporters participated in a picket in solidarity with political prisoners. An associate of Lyuzakov in the party "Democratic Union" and a member of the Russian Movement for the Independence of Chechnya, Yevgeny Frumkin, reported to a correspondent of PRIMA-News that those who wished to attend the session on the sentencing of the journalist were not allowed in the court room, although the process was declared to be open.
