15-17 October 2007: Committee of Ministers’ to supervise the execution of the European Court of Human Rights’ judgments

Strasbourg, 15.10.2007 - On 15-17 October 2007, the Committee of Ministers will hold its special meeting for the supervision of the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (Article 46 of the ECHR). The Committee will supervise the payment by respondent states of just satisfaction to applicants (675 cases), the adoption of other individual measures granting redress to the applicants (114 cases or groups of cases) and/or of general measures aimed at preventing new similar violations (120 cases or groups of cases). In addition, the Committee will start the supervision of the execution of a further 418 new judgments of the Court. ...

GROZNY, Chechnya – Local authorities have banned a rally by relatives of abducted residents of Dagestan and Chechnya that was scheduled to take place in the Chechen capital on Tuesday evening.

The organizers had planned to gather a large number of people, but the event was banned before it even began. Relatives had to make do with a short briefing session at the House of the Press, where they talked to journalists.

Authorities of Grozny ban the meeting of relatives of the persons kidnapped in Chechnya and Dagestan

The authorities of Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, have failed to sanction a meeting that was to be held by the relatives of the persons kidnapped in Chechnya and Dagestan. Several residents who came to the place of the meeting told journalists about the aim of the action, the Radio Liberty reports.

Natalia Estemirova, an employee of the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" in Chechnya, the laureate of the first annual world award named after Anna Politkovskaya, is going to spend the award money on legal assistance to victims of tortures and faked criminal cases in Chechnya.
