Jan 10 2011, 18:00

Valery Suchkov, a member of the City-Planning Council of Sochi and a well-known public activist, who was hospitalized with traumas on January 7, is sure that the attack on him was pre-planned and related to his public activities.

Mr Suchkov was hospitalized with traumas on January 7 in Khosta. He was told that he had been hit by a car. Galina Suchkova, his wife, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the incident occurred not far from their house.

"Valery told me that some unknown people called him and asked to get out to pick some important package brought to him from Moscow," she said and added that the callers said that "they were from the post office and could not find their house; therefore, they asked him to go out to the road."

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the ...

A kidnapped resident of Ingushetia Hamkhoev refuses hospitalization

Jan 05 2011, 18:00

In spite of traumas and fractures Adam Hamkhoev, resident of Ingushetia who returned home after he was kidnapped, refuses treatment in hospital. Hamkhoev is at home now because he does not rule out a new kidnapping.

"I have not quite got over yet. I feel very bad. My coccyx is fractured, there are multiple haematomas on the body and I have pain in my kidneys. Nevertheless, I prefer to stay at home. I am afraid to go to hospital for I do not think I will be safe there", Adam Hamkhoev said.

Bekhan Atigov, Secretary of Security Council of Ingushetia, confirmed that he was aware of detention of Adam Hamkhoev and Pliev brothers.

"All the three men were detained by the personnel of law enforcement bodies but both Plievs were then released and Hamkhoev was not let go for carrying out investigative actions because his brother ...

Investigation into murders of Sadulayeva and Dzhabrailov is fruitless, rights defenders assert

Jan 05 2011, 20:00

During the elapsed 18 months, the inquiry into the murders of the employees of the humanitarian organization "Let's Save the Generation" Zarema Sadulayeva and her husband Alik Dzhabrailov "has not left its starting point." This was stated by Adlan Mukhamedov, the current head of the NGO "Let's Save the Generation".

"I'm in permanent contact with the investigator, but there is no new information - nothing about the suspects and nothing about the versions of the murder - at least they tell me nothing," Adlan Mukhamedov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Let us note here that in March 2010 Mr Kadyrov accused, during his meeting with the PACE Rapporteur Dick Martin, "international terrorists or those who support them" of murdering human rights defenders Natalia Estemirova and Zarema Sadulayeva.

"Here, it depends on who is called who: officially, we have no more terrorists left ...

KVACHKOV BACK IN PRISON FOR ‘COUP’ AFTER RELEASE

Tuesday, December 28, 2010

The St. Petersburg Times

MOSCOW — Former intelligence colonel Vladimir Kvachkov, cleared Wednesday of involvement in a high-profile assassination attempt, is back in detention after being held on suspicion of preparing a violent overthrow of the government, Interfax reported.

Law enforcement officers also searched Kvachkov’s apartment before detaining him, his lawyer Alexei Pershin told the news agency.

Investigators did not comment on the case. Kvachkov told Gazeta.ru that he had barricaded himself in his apartment and attempted to prevent Federal Security Service officers from entering.

Kvachkov was earlier questioned by the FSB for calls to overthrow the government allegedly made by a member of the Minin and Pozharsky’s Public Militia group, which he heads, Interfax reported, citing Kommersant.

An outspoken ultranationalist, Kvachkov was charged with leading a shooting and bombing attack in 2005 on a convoy carrying Rusnano chief Anatoly Chubais, who at the time ...

Musa Pliev: authorities won't ensure security of Ingushes-migrants

Dec 30 2010, 22:40

The programme of resettling residents of Northern Caucasus reached Penza. Within the resettlement programme of labour-excessive population the region will receive several hundreds of Dagestanis and Ingushes.

However, according to the lawyer Musa Pliev, ex-adviser to the president of Ingushetia, the safety of the Caucasians, moved outside their republics under the resettlement programme may be under threat.

Mr Pliev doubts the expediency of the resettlement programme of job-seeking Ingushes to the Penza Region. "In the light of recent fascist actions in the Russian capital, I do not think that the government will be able to ensure the migrants' safety, especially in Russia's periphery," Musa Pliev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"If Khloponin wants to accommodate Ingushes, isn't it better to build at least one normally operating enterprise?" asked Mr Pliev. "However, not on paper, as it usually happened. Ingushes will be at home, employed and accommodated; ...
