PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Dec 9 (Interfax) - Even though Russia has regained much of its former influence in the world arena, its domestic spiritual and moral atmosphere is far from being ideal, writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn has said.

"Russia has re-asserted its influence in international relations, and regained its role in the world. But inside, morally, we are far from what we wish and what we need to be," Solzhenitsyn said in an interview with the Vesti Nedeli program on Rossiya television.

"Deep and difficult development is still needed, which no government or parliamentary practices can ensure. It is a very complex spiritual process," the writer said.

Prosecutor's Office of Volgograd Region finds violations of SIZO inmates' rights

In the Volgograd Region, prosecutor's inspections undertaken at five investigatory isolation facilities and eight premises that function as SIZOs (pre-trial custodies) have revealed numerous violations of the rights of suspects and defendants.

L. I. Sergeeva, Senior Assistant of the Public Prosecutor of the Volgograd Region, has enumerated to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent the main violations of the rights of the detainees.

Firstly, they failed to ensure the right of suspects and defendants for the minimal standard of sanitary room area (4 square meters per person) and individual bed as stipulated by Article 23 of the Federal Law. Mikhail Trepashkin who was released from colony is going to appeal against his verdict

Mikhail Trepashkin, ex-FSB colonel, who was convicted for disclosure of state secrets and got his liberty today, is going to appeal against his verdict.

"Mr Trepashkin is going to appeal against his verdict as he finds it to be unfair," said a source from the public committee in defence of Trepashkin as quoted by the RIA "Novosti".

According to the source, Mikhail Trepashkin is also confident that he had committed no treason against the State.

We remind you that today at 8:20 a.m. local time, ex-FSB colonel Mikhail Trepashkin was released from the general custody colony in the city of Nizhni Tagil, Sverdlovsk Region.
