For 7 months the Polish frontier guards have detained more than 200 Chechen refugees

For the first 7 months in 2005 the Polish frontier guards have detained in total 236 persons with passports issued in Russia, basically on the Polish-German border when they illegally tried to get across to Germany. This is higher, than for the similar period of the last year. Almost all detained are Chechens, informs German newspaper Die Welt.

Police on Sunday re-imprisoned Mikhail Trepashkin, a former FSB officer who was released last month after serving just under half of his four-year sentence on charges of revealing state secrets, his lawyer said.

Trepashkin, who had investigated the alleged role of the Federal Security Service in a series of apartment bombings in 1999, was detained at his home in Moscow, his lawyer Yelena Lipster said.

On Friday, a Sverdlovsk region court overturned a lower court decision to release him early for good behavior. Trepashkin arrived in Moscow on Aug. 31 after being freed from prison in Nizhny Tagil.

Trepashkin's wife, Tatyana, was quoted by RIA-Novosti as saying that police officers read the court ruling and said that they were taking him back to the prison in Nizhny ...

The tenant of a senior citizen’s center locked in a punishment cell
RUSSIA, Urupinsk, Volgograd region. During an inspection of the center for senior citizens and handicapped, the Urupinsk regional legislature in the Volgograd region identified a case of illegal detention of the tenants, the Office of the Public Prosecutor announced Sept. 13.

The reason for the inspection was a complaint by L. Bezrukov, who informed local authorities that the senior center illegally withheld 75 percent of his pension for his living in the center. The inspection yielded evidence that supported Bezrukov’s accusations about the illegal apprehension of seniors and handicapped in the so-called room for intensive care. The room resembled a prison cell with two metal beds and bars on the window. The medical staff (nurses, doctors, and administrators) used their own judgement to determine how serious a violation is and ...
