We repeatedly addressed you for help and support at that moment when us, Chechens, tortured and killed. We appealed to you with hope, that you respond to our call, but we have seen and have understood, that your hearts have become hardened and gloom has shrouded your eyes. And consequently our voice has remained ´´the voice of crying in the desert´´. We have buried last hope and now we do not appeal neither to your help, nor to your pity for we have understood that is lost the main human property - conscience, the feeling absence of wich ... >> full...

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 10/17/2005 2:50 AM CAUCASIAN KNOT / NEWS 3/10/2005 No compensations for lost homes Residents of Komsomolskoye, Urus-Martan district, which was completely destroyed during military action have been given no compensations for their lost homes and properties to date. This is what a village resident says. According to Ramzan Suleimanov, 44, only international humanitarian organisations provide assistance to residents in the destroyed village. "Our village was completely destroyed in March 2000 when combats between the military and the unit of Khamzat Gelayev were going on here for nearly a month. A lot of our fellow villagers were killed here that time because no corridor to leave the encircled village was provided," he says. "After a month of combats, the entire village turned into ruins. And people have not been able to return to their homes for five years already." "We have not received compensations. Those who can rebuild their houses at their ... >> full...

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 10/16/2005 8:27 PM Briefing - Torture, "disappearances" and alleged unfair trials in Russia’s North Caucasus Sep 30, 2005 Amnesty International releases today new findings that show there is no end to the serious human rights violations in the North Caucasus. What the Russian government describes as its "war on terror" in this region is being used as a pretext for violations that include "disappearances", torture, arbitrary detention and incommunicado detention in unacknowledged as well as official places of detention. There are ongoing reports of targeted violence against women by members of the security forces in Chechnya, in particular arbitrary detention, rape, and killing. Such violations are overwhelmingly committed with impunity, as very few perpetrators are ever identified and brought to justice. Chechen armed opposition groups are also reported to have violated international humanitarian law over the course of the conflict, including by targeting civilians. While "disappearances" continue, Amnesty ... >> full...

From: MSN NicknameEagle_wng (Original Message) Sent: 10/17/2005 4:40 PM CAUCASIAN KNOT / NEWS 7/10/2005 Refugee camp unheated Most rooms in a temporary accommodation point (TAP) for internally displaced persons in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny, are still unheated. Dwellers of the Okruzhnaia TAP in Grozny's Zavodskoi district complain that no heat is supplied to their panel houses to date. Autumn cold weather is already beginning to affect the forced migrants. "The small houses in which we live are made of thin panels. There are huge gaps, and there are draughts everywhere. Adults can stand piercing cold after all, but what about children? No heat supply system has yet been connected, we have to take some measures by ourselves — winterise the rooms, fill in the gaps," a TAP dweller, Zaman, 45, said. "Wherever we apply to - the migration service, the district administration, etc. — everywhere officials have one and the same answer: no funding. I ... >> full...
