ST. PETERSBURG. March 22 (Interfax) - 270,000 Russian children aged between seven and 15 do not attend school, rector of the St. Petersburg State University Lyudmila Verbitskaya said at a press conference at Interfax St. Petersburg on Wednesday.
"Authorities at all levels should pay attention to this issue," she said.
She expressed concern over the health of school leavers. "Last year we held medical examinations of university applicants and found that only 9.8% of first-year students are healthy," she said.
Asked about the level of education in Russian universities, Verbitskaya said that the number of universities and institutes in Russia should be reduced.
