Elina Ersenoyeva was seized by armed men in the Chechen capital, Grozny, on August 17. Human rights activists say that Ersenoyeva had written to them two days earlier to say she was being harassed by security forces working for Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov. Kadyrov's security forces have often been accused of human rights abuses, a charge he denies. His brother, Yakub Isabaev, was captured for unknown reasons by policemen when he was leaving a mosque in Vienna. A few hours later, after Mr Isabaev was brought to a police station, his body was found on the outskirts of Vienna. Yakub Isabaev suffered from a heart desease and his relatives assume that he died during an interrogation in the police station.
