The poisoning of former KGB official Alexander Litvinenko probably is not "directly" linked to the G.R.U. or F.S.B. if anything that I have heard or seen is anything to go by. After all, such direct and traceable action is downright stupid.
No, like the lady journalist who was gunned down on her way back from the grocery store, it was some disgruntled individual acting alone. There seem to be a lot of these disgruntled individuals acting alone, mind you, in the style of some 'Lee Harvey Oswald' fairytale ( of course the Mafia did not want to get rid of J.F.K. ... after all, he was only investigating them and trying to put them out of business ).
One only has to look at Chechnya - and the death Mafia there ... >>full...

Nov 27 2006, 19:38
MOSCOW (AP) - A Russian youth organization said Monday that it had raided outdoor markets in the Moscow region to help authorities spot illegal migrants, and that police detained several dozen people after fighting broke out.
The previously unknown youth organization Mestnye (Locals) took the action amid government efforts to tighten restrictions on migrants and bar them from trading at markets - moves strongly criticized by rights activists.
Mestnye said in statement on its Web site that several hundred of its activists on Sunday went to check 20 markets in Moscow suburbs for illegal immigrants working as traders. It said the goal of the raid was to help spot migrants who break the law and sell substandard products.
Minor scuffles broke out with traders who challenged the raid, and police had ... >>full...

On the 17 November representatives from several democratic parties, movements and social organisations appealed to the representatives of other states in St Petersburg not to allow civil servants who breach human rights by not allowing public protests to take place entry to their countries.
The appeal said: “During the last two years the executive bodies in St Petersburg, having received notification that public protests were to be held, in almost every instance refused to allow them to take place on fabricated and absurd grounds.
In our opinion, this is not only an infringement of Article 31 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, but also Article 11 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, because in not one single ... >>full...

Amnesty International and Memorial released yesterday the reports on tortures in Russia and Chechnya. The purpose of the reports is to prompt the U.N. Committee Against Tortures to release tough recommendations to the government of Russia on November 24. The pro-Kremlin political analysts say the sole achievement of right advocates will be “another blow on Russia’s image in the world.” Tortures of people by police is a fact that couldn’t be denied, says the yesterday’s report of Amnesty International. It claims the police apply batons, bottles with water and other devices to exact confessions. The organization registered more than 100 ... >>full...
