Her comments follow a number of recent events that have refocused international attention on the dignity of the death penalty and its relation to our most basic human rights. According to Nordi Nukhazhiev, Chechnya's ombudsman, violations of the law were revealed in the Grozny "SIZO." In his words, at the "SIZO," they "keep persons on remand, TB and mental patients together with healthy people," the "Interfax" Agency reports. Besides, according to Mr. Nukhazhiev, the persons under investigation complained on the attempts to get their evidences with the help of "prohibited and legally-banned methods."
