Among those detained was Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion and a leader of Other Russia. The opposition political bloc, which is critical of the government of Russian President Vladimir Putin, says it is using peaceful pressure in an attempt to persuade the authorities to hold free and fair elections next year. Police and OMON special forces moved to break up the unauthorized rally before it began, but their detention of Kasparov looks certain to provide publicity for Russian opposition efforts. That is very lucky of you, because it is not the case for a great number of inhabitants of Caucasus where Sochi is situated. Those who want to travel to a nearby district where they are not registered need a special permit which may take up to 7 days to get! When USSR collapsed in 1991, all those nations that got away from it could find a certain freedom of movement, except for Caucasians. The main convict - Bislan Badalov - was found guilty of organizing a criminal group, kidnappings, extortions with use of violence and robberies. Advocate Abusupyan Gaitaev, Mr. Badalov's defence, has told about it to the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot." Badalov's accomplices - Alexander Ivanov and Nikolai Uglanov, residents of the city of Udomlya of Tver Region, and Khasambek Ahmetkhanov - have been found guilty of being members of the criminal group and accessories to the crimes organized by Badalov.
